چکیده
The low efficacy of current conventional treatments for bacterial infections increases mortality rates worldwide. To alleviate this global health problem, we propose drug-free enzyme-based nanomotors the treatment urinary-tract infections. We develop consisting mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNPs) that were functionalized with either urease (U-MSNPs), lysozyme (L-MSNPs), or and (M-MSNPs), use them against nonpathogenic planktonic Escherichia coli. U-MSNPs exhibited highest bactericidal activity due to biocatalysis urea into NaHCO3 NH3, which also propels U-MSNPs. In addition, in concentrations above 200 μg/mL capable successfully reducing 60% biofilm biomass a uropathogenic E. coli strain. This study thus provides proof-of-concept, demonstrating are fighting infectious diseases. approach could potentially be extended other kinds diseases by selecting appropriate biomolecules.

متن کاملBactericidal Effect of Pterostilbene Alone and in Combination with Gentamicin against Human Pathogenic Bacteria.
The antibacterial activity of pterostilbene in combination with gentamicin against six strains of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria were investigated. The minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration of pterostilbene were determined using microdilution technique whereas the synergistic antibacterial activities of pterostilbene in combination with gentamicin wer...
متن کاملIn vitro bactericidal activity of the antiprotozoal drug miltefosine against Streptococcus pneumoniae and other pathogenic streptococci.
Miltefosine (hexadecylphosphocholine), the first oral drug against visceral leishmaniasis, triggered pneumococcal autolysis at concentrations higher than 2.5 microM. Bactericidal activity was also observed in cultures of other streptococci, although these failed to undergo lysis. The autolysis elicited by miltefosine can be attributed to triggering of the pneumococcal autolysin LytA.

This study was carried out to determine the antimicrobial activity of Psidiumguajava(PG) leavesextracts against some pathogenic microbes. The extracts of P.G leaves was fractionated and purified by preparative TLC technique, then subjected toGas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy (GC-MS) to identify the biologically active compounds.Thereafter, thetoxicity of the pure fractions was assessed in vi...
متن کاملBacteriocins active against plant pathogenic bacteria.
Gram-negative phytopathogens cause significant losses in a diverse range of economically important crop plants. The effectiveness of traditional countermeasures, such as the breeding and introduction of resistant cultivars, is often limited by the dearth of available sources of genetic resistance. An alternative strategy to reduce loss to specific bacterial phytopathogens is to use narrow-spect...
